Relay limits, in plain numbers.
Only relay tiers (Pro and up) have bandwidth guidance, because relay costs us real money. Direct-access tiers have no limits. If you ever go over, we email you first — we never throttle a paid service silently.
Why this policy exists
Most of Finderwave costs us almost nothing to run, so most of Finderwave has no usage limits. The exception is relay: routing your media stream through our edge network uses real, metered bandwidth that we pay for. This policy explains the relay limits in plain numbers, so there are no surprises and no hidden throttling.
If you're on the Free tier (direct access only), none of this applies to you. Your media never touches our network, so there is nothing for us to meter.
Who this applies to
This policy applies only to tiers that use our managed relay:
| Tier | Subject to fair use? |
|---|---|
| Free | No — direct access, zero relay. |
| Lifetime | Yes — relay with guidance below. |
| Pro | Yes — relay with guidance below. |
| Pro Unlimited | Yes — relay, fair-use governed. |
| Founder's Pass | Yes — same as Pro Unlimited. |
| Business | By contract — dedicated capacity. |
Relay bandwidth guidance
These are monthly guidance figures, not hard cut-offs. They reflect what a typical household or small community uses. Going over occasionally is fine; sustained, large overages are what this policy addresses.
| Tier | Monthly relay guidance | Concurrent streams |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | ~2.5 TB | 10 (enforced at the edge) |
| Lifetime | ~2.5 TB | 10 (enforced at the edge) |
| Pro Unlimited | ~6 TB | Unlimited (fair use) |
| Founder's Pass | ~6 TB | Unlimited (fair use) |
| Business | Per contract | Per contract |
For reference, ~2.5 TB is roughly 500 hours of 1080p streaming per month. Most personal and friend-group servers never approach it.
Acceptable use
Relay is built for personal and small-community sharing — your household, your friends, your club. That's what the pricing assumes.
- Sharing your own Jellyfin server with people you know.
- A community server for a club, group, or family.
- Internal video for an organisation on the Business tier.
What isn't allowed
The relay is not a commercial content-delivery network. The following are out of scope on any standard tier:
- Reselling relay capacity or operating Finderwave as a paid service for third parties.
- Public, open-to-the-internet directories intended for anonymous mass access.
- Distributing illegal content. We don't inspect your stream, but unlawful use terminates your account.
- Deliberately circumventing stream or bandwidth limits.
Need higher, sustained throughput for a legitimate reason? That's what Business is for — talk to us and we'll size dedicated capacity.
What happens if you exceed guidance
We don't believe in silent throttling. If your relay usage is consistently and substantially over guidance, here's exactly what happens, in order:
- We email you first. A plain note showing your usage and the guidance figure. No action taken yet.
- We suggest the right fix — usually an upgrade to a tier that fits, or Business for dedicated capacity.
- Only if overage continues after that, we may apply a temporary soft rate-limit on relay. Direct access and auth are never affected.
You will always hear from us before anything changes. We never degrade a paid service without telling you why.
Founder's Pass & lifetime plans
The Founder's Pass includes Pro Unlimited relay for life, subject to the same fair-use guidance as Pro Unlimited. It is a personal or community license for one Finderwave account — not a commercial CDN. The launch offer runs until 15 August 2026.
The Lifetime plan includes Pro-level relay (25 users, 10 concurrent streams) with the same fair-use guidance as Pro.
Changes to this policy
If we change the guidance figures, we'll give existing relay customers at least 30 days' notice by email before the change applies to them. Lower limits never apply retroactively to a billing period you've already paid for.
